Amazon.com Possibilities, by jazz piano/keyboard legend Herbie Hancock, with songs by Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Leon Russell, is a multigenerational masterpiece. Rock's "it boy" John Mayer leads off the CD with the spare, bouncy opener, "Stitched Up." Brit-born soul girl Joss Stone and bluesman Jonny Lang get down on the gutbucket "When Love Comes to Town." Christina Aguilera's excellent vocals illuminate "A Song for You." Not to be outdone, Annie Lennox delivers an operatic take on Holly Cole's "Hush, Hush, Hush," while Sting's "Sister Moon" swings with stealthy syncopations. Santana and the Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo provide the world flavor on "Safiotou," and the dreamy "Gelo No Montana," with ex-Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, is the lone instrumental. Hancock's tight solos and intelligent orchestral synths radiate all of the tracks. Like Frank Sinatra's Duets and Ray Charles's Genius Loves Company, Possibilities introduces Hancock to a new and awestruck generation. --Eugene Holley, Jr. Recommended Herbie Hancock Discography Maiden Voyage (RVG Edition) | Headhunters | Speak Like a Child (RVG Edition) |

Great Jazz/Pop CD with lots of variety December 16, 2008 Scott S. Camp (Asheville, NC) I'm a piano teacher and jazz piano player. One of my student's parents gave this to me. It's great because you get Herbie's legendary jazz piano playing in a lot of different settings with interesting and mostly succussful results. Especially notable are the remake of Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" (Stevie plays a solo, but is not the singer!), Angelique Kidjo and Santana, a stunning performance by Christina Aguilera (if she made an entire album of material like this, it would possibly be one of the greatest jazz vocal albums ever... how can somebody even say something like that? you have to hear her with Herbie... she's so good it's scary... a pop singer with an alter-ego... almost as ridiculous as if Britney Spears were cutting jazz records on the side like Ella F or Sarah V--totally not fair!!! Anyway, this is about Herbie, and the album provides a good introduction to why he's the man. Check out the guest artists and the songs, and if you know and like them, you'll love this album....
Wow November 11, 2008 EWD (NJ, USA) Yet another pleasant surprise from HH. For those who truely enjoy LISTENING to music.
YES, Herbie; Anything's Possible May 13, 2008 Hrysoula Karali 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not to overstate it, but this is a fantastic release. Maybe diehard fans might balk but as a musician the artistry shown here is exquisite. I was turned on to "Possibilities" by the Cable/DVD video documentary chronicling the making of this recording. A very popular production tool these days, letting top musical performers invite other artists to join in the making of a new album by contributing diverse talents, unique styles, etc. creating new and exciting sounds. Will definitely recommend to friends and fellow musicians!
